Deadly Tornadoes Rip Through Arkansas
At least 16 people are dead after a series of tornadoes ripped through Arkansas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Kansas last night. The town of Vilonia, Arkansas, population 4,100, was hit hardest, with nine victims on the same street. The New Vilonia Intermediate School, scheduled to open in August, was destroyed.
Medical officials reported at least 100 people in Arkansas were injured, and more than 10,000 people were without power this morning.
Bill Bunting of the National Weather Service said the threat is not over. “This is a multiday event and today is the second day of significant tornado risk and unfortunately, probably not the last.”
