The concept of ‘affordable health care’ for everyone sounds good in theory, but in reality it will mean premiums go up for everyone.  New requirements on insurers according to the Affordable Care Act will result in insurance pools that are ‘smaller and sicker, and therefore more expensive.’

On December 28, 2012, the IRS released the proposed "Employer Shared Responsibility Payments" regulations "aka" the "Employer Mandate" regulations.  We have been waiting for these for some time and there is a lot to unpack.  Comments on the proposed regulations are due March 18, 2013.

With the arrival of 2013, group health administrators are hearing a lot about 12/1 renewal dates.  Is this a bunch of hype?  Why should a group health plan with a renewal date in the beginning of the year consider an early 12/1/13 renewal next year?
