The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association was created in 1971 to provide windstorm and hail coverage to those unable to get insurance from other carriers. Unfortunately, the TWIA has been in financial trouble after getting hit with losses from Hurricane Ike in 2008, to the tune of over $2.5 billion!
November 30th marked the end of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. It was, thankfully, a quiet one for the gulf coast, but it was actually the third most active season on record, tying it with 1887 and 1995. NASA has produced a pretty interesting summary track map here.
